Personal & Relationship Counselling and Psychotherapy in Plymouth

We understand that everyone encounters problems at some point in their life. You may feel like you are in a rut and don’t know how to get out of it. Certain challenging emotions, such as depression or anxiety, can end up affecting you on a daily basis, causing you to feel isolated from other people. In moments like these, counselling offers the space you need to process these feelings in a healthy, gradual way, and always on your own terms.

Our team of experienced counsellors are equipped to provide individualised, targeted support to people going through a wide range of problems. The diversity in our organisation means we have specialists in numerous areas, such as bereavement, eating disorders, addiction, sexual issues, sexuality and identity issues, trauma, gender and young people issues. We always take care to understand your unique situation and will work with you to develop a personalised way of working through the issues that directly tackles the problems you face, enabling you to live a more fulfilled, peaceful life.

Gender, Sexuality and Identity

Those within the LGBTQIA+ community often struggle to find professionals with a specialist background in providing affirmative, non-discriminatory therapy. It can often feel like you have nowhere to go, but we are here for you. Our organisation includes experienced practitioners who are trained to give LGBTQIA+ people a form of help that directly focuses on addressing the unique issues experienced by those within that particular community.

We have high levels of experience in working with people whose gender and/or sexuality is misunderstood, disrespected, or not recognised by family, friends, co-workers, and wider society, creating a welcoming, affirmative environment to talk through these issues and arrive at a better place.

Whether you identify as transgender, non-binary, gender-expansive, genderqueer, gender fluid, agender, don’t use labels, or feel unsure about your identity, we are equipped to provide targeted, ongoing support for the everyday challenges you face. This could include a number of issues, such as rejection fear, discrimination, fear over coming out, issues with relationships, marriage, parenting, or confusion over gender and/or sexuality.

Bereavement

Experiencing the loss of a loved one is never easy and trying to deal with it alone can make the situation even harder. Everyone experiences grief in their own unique way, with different feelings emerging for different people. It is important that you have a private, judgement-free space in which to vocalise these feelings and have them validated by one of our professionals.

We are here to listen, giving you the floor to voice your emotions in any way you see fit, and in your own time. Eventually, when the time is right, we will work with you to develop a personalised way of moving through the different stages of loss and coming to a place of acceptance.

Addiction

Our addiction specialists take a compassionate, holistic approach to helping you overcome certain maladaptive behaviours that are negatively affecting your life. We understand that addiction is not a choice, but rather a coping mechanism in response to emotional pain, and as a result, our focus will be on getting to the source of that pain.

Whether you are addicted to alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, or any other behaviour/substance, telling people to ‘simply stop’ or ‘just say no’ doesn’t work. Together, we will create an empathetic therapeutic space where we can explore what lies behind your addiction and help you arrive at a place where you don’t have to keep escaping into addictions as a way of coping with challenging emotions.

Young People

Young people are met with a number of unique challenges on their path from childhood to adulthood. Navigating this time is hard; so much changes in such a short period of time, and it can often feel overwhelming. Our counsellors and psychotherapists in Plymouth have extensive experience in working with all kinds of issues that crop up throughout this period, which include but are not limited to:

Stress and anxiety
